Rawlings Redesigns Gold Glove Award® in conjunction with award’s 50th anniversary in 2007

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (June 4, 2007)- Rawlings today announced they will be redesigning the coveted Rawlings Gold Glove Award® to coincide with the award’s 50th anniversary. The Rawlings Gold Glove Award, presented annually to a lineup of 18 Major League players, was created in 1957 to recognize defensive excellence at each position. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, Rawlings will also create three new awards based on the new pro design that will be awarded to collegiate, high school, and youth players, respectively. Evolve Marketing Group, based in Troy, Michigan, will be responsible for the production of the pro, collegiate, high school, and junior Rawlings Gold Glove Awards.

“The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is an iconic symbol of defense and the heritage associated with the game of baseball and the Rawlings brand. Fifty years later, this still holds true,” said David Zumbach, Rawlings Vice-President of Marketing. “In honor of this important milestone, we wanted to give the award a special, unique look. The new Rawlings Gold Glove Award design does a great job of incorporating new modern design elements, while still evoking the same sense of tradition as the original award.”

Inspired by the look of a luxury automobile, the updated pro award will feature a burled cherry wood base with a lacquered black piano wood trim. Additionally, a section of the award base will be covered with Rawlings Heart of the Hide™ leather embroidered with the Rawlings Patch logo. The pair of gold baseballs and gold glove found on the current award will remain; however, each will be made of a new gold material in order to reflect a more polished, modern look. If the winning player is a Rawlings athlete, they will receive a gold version of their game day model on their award. All other winners will receive a uniform gold Rawlings model. The pro and collegiate awards will be the only versions to feature the pair of Rawlings baseballs on the award.

The new pro awards will make their debut following the announcement of the 2007 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners at the conclusion of the season. The collegiate, high school, and junior Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipients will also be revealed early this fall.
